A Flock of Happy Birds

A couple of weeks ago my fabulous friend, Claire, of Ham'n'mule Designs posted a card with a birdie from WPlus9's Happy Birds.  I commented that I'd never inked up that set so we challenged each other to make 4 cards and we'd share them on our blogs.  I think I need to do this more often.  It felt so good to ink up these stamps that I HAD to have (and then left to collect dust).  Also I am super excited that I get to meet Claire in less than a month's time!  She is such a cool chick who I totally clicked with the first time we exchanged messages.  She's sassy, funny and a brilliant carmaker.  Who could ask for more in a friend?

Clearly I got into a blue zone while making these but I guess birds make me think of the sky so blue dominated.  I tried to use a few different techniques - paper piecing on the first two, Brushos on the third, and Copic coloring on the third and fourth.
Now it's time to hop over to Claire's blog and see the awesomeness she's created!

CASology #255

Welcome to Week 255 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

I've had these WPlus9 birdies for a while now and, thanks to my lovely friend Claire, I finally dug them out to get them inked up.  (More on that tomorrow).  I couldn't resist making coloring that little round tummy red - this bird was made to be a robin red breast!  I also love this sentiment.  Luis and I always get scolded by the staff at our favourite pub because we're not supposed to feed the birds but they look so adorable trying to fly off with a big ol' french fry hanging out of their little beaks!  How can we not share with them?

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

Trio of Critters

Hi there!  Not only did I have some unexpected crafty time today but my mojo was also very cooperative!  Yaaaasssss to the mojo!  So I have 3 cards to share starting with this cute Stampers Anonymous pooch.  I based the layout on CAS(E) This Sketch and the patterned paper makes it eligible for the Simon Says Wednesday challenge.  I'm also going to play along with the Anything Goes challenge at Seize the Birthday.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Night of Navy Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper:  (June Bug 12x12) Basic Grey

This next card is for the Just Add Ink sketch challenge.  This Whimsy Stamps elephant is so cute and I love his little party hat.  I found the card base in a pile of extra stuff on my desk.  If you look closely it's been decorated with an old PTI impression plate and it seemed like the perfect pattern for a party!

Finally is a card for the My Favourite Things sketch challenge.  This is the only cat from this particular stamp set that I hadn't inked up so I thought it was time he get his moment in the sun.  I kept thinking it needed a little something else but now I'm glad I left it as a simple layered design.

That's it for today.  See you tomorrow for CASology!

Hi there!  Popping in quickly with a card for the Men challenge at Paper Smooches which came along at the perfect time as I need more masculine birthday cards.  I stamped the sentiments onto the awesome Paint Stroke dies, attached them to a die cut panel, mounted that to the cad base, added some Nuvo drops and voila - masculine birthday card!

Many Thanks (Literally)

Hello hello!  I've been busy working on some special orders and a little project that I'll be sharing on Wednesday but I also managed to get a card done for a few challenges.  I used the colours from CAS-ual Fridays along with layout inspiration from Jenni Murray at Muse and I'm joining the Words Take Center Stage challenge at AAA Cards.  This began as a 1 layer card but there was a little issue with one of the round thank yous so I re-stamped them, punched them out and popped them up.  Also, I know that ink looks a little red but I promise it's SU Calypso Coral.

That's it for today.  Hope you all have a wonderful week!

CASology #254

Welcome to Week 254 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

This started out as a one layer card but, as usual, I inked outside of the masked off stripe and ended up with a mess.  Clearly I need to mask off EVERYTHING that I want to stay uninked!  I liked the ombre effect of the inking though and didn't want to chuck it so I just cut out the stripe, popped it up on foam tape and added it to a new card blank.  It adds some dimension so I think I can say this way a successful save.

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

CASology #253

Welcome to Week 253 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

I don't seem to have all that many clothing images in my stamp and die collection outside of baby clothes so I went with what I have.  Originally I was just going to have the onesie replace the "a" in baby but it didn't look quite right.  Then I placed a Lawn Fawn "a" on the onesie and it pretty much obscured it.  I then found a smaller Papertrey "a" which fit in the onesie perfectly.  Looking at it now I'm not sure I like it.  Maybe it needs a bigger onesie with an "a" that matches the other letters.  I may have to play with this design again.  What do you guys think?

I had to make a boy version of the card too of course!

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

Two Flowers

Hi there!  We finally got some much needed rain today which not only was reason to celebrate but also made for a perfect excuse to get in some crafty time.  I've got two cards for three challenges.  First up I used the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and took inspiration from Anita's card at Muse.  I love the drama Anita's black flowers against the red background pattern.  It's bold and fabulous!  I used some Authentique papers for the two panels on the sketch, heat embossed and fussy cut the Altenew flower and added some Nuvo dots around the Altenew sentiment.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper:  (Carefree Collection 6x6) Authentique
Stamps:  (Flower from Hennah Elements, Sentiment from Many Thanks) Altenew
Inks:  (VersaMark, VersaFine Onyx Black) Tsukeniko
Embossing Powder:  (Opaque Bright White Super Fine) Wow
Other:  (Nuvo White & Oyster Grey Crystal Drops) Tonic

This card uses the colours from CAS Colours & Sketches.  I happened to have the Soft Sky die cut square on my desk so decided to try and use it for the challenge.  I used a Calypso Coral marker to add some subtle detail to the Essentials by Ellen flower petals.  I also die cut some extra outlines to put behind the square for a bit of interest.  I'm pretty sure this idea was in my head because I've seen it on someone's blog recently but I cannot remember who's or when it was.  If anyone knows please let me know so I can link to them!

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Bazzill, (Calypso Coral, Soft Sky, Crumb Cake) Stampin' Up
Stamps:  (Sentiment from Bejeweled) Altenew
Inks:  (VersaFine Onyx Black) Tsukeniko
Die:  (Flower from Wild Garden) Essentials by Ellen, (Wonky Stitched Square) My Favourite Things
Marker:  (Calypso Coral) Stampin' Up
Glitter:  (Clear Wink of Stella) Zig
